Jean Josselin - Cuvée des Jean NV

The cuvee
Jean Josselin - Cuvée des Jean NV
This Champagne was the very first created by Jean Josselin in the 1950s. Since then, each generation of "Jean" has continued crafting this 100% Pinot Noir wine, made from multiple harvests. The grape stem illustrated on the label is an allegory of a family tree—this wine represents a living link between all members of our family.
Why the name "Cuvée des Jean"?
Named in tribute to Jean, founder of Maison Jean Josselin in 1957, this 100% Pinot Noir cuvée embodies our family story and the transmission of know-how through the generations—from Jean to Jean-Pierre, Jean-Félix, and our grandson Jean, born in July 2012.
- Philosophy: Precise and sustainable viticulture that respects the soil, the vine, biodiversity, and people. Grapes are harvested at full maturity and vinified by parcel.
- Illustration: Grape stem
- Terroir: Côte des Bar, Gyé-sur-Seine – clay-limestone soils over Kimmeridgian marl.
- Farming: Natural grass cover and soil ploughing. Preventive vineyard care with meticulous pruning, debudding, leaf thinning, and trellising.
- Vinification: 100% Pinot Noir – 75% from the 2022 harvest and 25% from our perpetual reserve. Grapes pressed using a traditional Coquard press.
- Low-temperature alcoholic fermentation (13°C) with in-house S. Bayanus yeast and indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation completed. Aged on lees until July. Unfiltered and not cold-stabilized (a light natural sediment may form over time, a sign of a living wine). Bottled with 24g/L of tirage liqueur.
- Bottling: 20/07/2023
- Disgorgement: 03/2025
- Dosage: 2.5 g/L – Extra Brut
- Tasting Notes: A charming nose of white fruits. The palate is fresh and indulgent, leaving a pleasant sensation of lightness.
- Food Pairing: Ideal as an aperitif, with grilled red meats, or Normandy oysters from open sea.
- Josselin Family’s Insight: Are you into countryside weekends, big gatherings with friends, grilled ribeye and cheese boards? Then this fruity, bold, and structured Champagne is made for you!
- Winemaker’s Note: Crafted from selected Pinot Noir cuvées from several years, this Champagne is both powerful and generous. Its golden hue is matched by a flattering nose with notes of hawthorn, apple, and stewed strawberry. On the palate, it's a mix of freshness and vinosity with intense fruit character. The finish evokes vineyard peach.
