Champagne Barat Père & Fils • Jules Barat in Bragelogne-Beauvoir

In Bragelogne-Beauvoir, at the heart of the Côte des Bar, Jules Barat is bringing new energy to the family estate Barat Père & Fils. Trained in Beaune, he has developed a highly personal approach to the vineyard and winemaking, drawing inspiration from Burgundy and based on a precise understanding of terroir.

A PLOT-BY-PLOT APPROACH

Jules Barat works each plot separately, from the vineyard through to vinification and ageing, in order to reveal its identity as clearly as possible. Soil, exposure, grape variety and ripeness are all carefully considered to create wines with a strong sense of place. The estate primarily grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as Pinot Blanc, a rare and forgotten Champagne grape variety to which Jules Barat gives particular attention. Vinification and ageing are carried out with a restrained approach, while the cuvées are very lightly dosed, generally at Extra Brut level. Extended ageing on the lees allows the wines to gain complexity while retaining their freshness and tension. With his first cuvée, La Plante, a single-parcel Pinot Blanc from Bragelogne-Beauvoir aged for 23 months in oak, Jules Barat creates precise, fresh and saline Champagnes that reflect a new generation of wines from the Côte des Bar.
