Antonin Michel • Winegrower in Moussy

Like the José Michel estate, Antonin also runs Champagne Wirth-Michel. He farms 4 hectares of vines in Moussy and Vinay, co-managed with his mother Nathalie. This “dual activity” is part of Antonin’s daily life, working both estates, inherited from his two parents, according to the same philosophy. Unable to merge the two estates, he remains deeply attached to their respective terroirs and creates cuvées with a strong identity, that of the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay. A region in its own right, often overlooked between the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne. From his mother’s side of the family, he inherited old massal selections dating from the 1950s to the 1990s. These very small plots allow him to favour horse-drawn ploughing and carry out the remaining mechanical work with relatively lightweight equipment. In the cellar, the vintage wines are vinified 100% in demi-muids, while the reserve wines are aged in demi-muids, stainless-steel tanks, enamelled tanks and concrete vats.
