History & Family
Born from the union of two children of winemakers, Champagne Bertrand-Delespierre was founded in 1980 by Chantal Delespierre and Didier Bertrand. Two generations now work side-by-side, cultivating nearly 10 hectares of family vineyards, as two of their children, Clémence and Adrien, have joined them at the estate. This sixth generation of winemakers is committed to preserving the founding family values and continuing to showcase the unique expression of these terroirs.
Philosophy
It all begins with working the vines with respect for the terroir. This is how the vines can produce expressive, high-quality grapes. The work continues with careful vinification: pressing in a traditional Champagne press. The juices, depending on their vineyard plot, are then placed in vats or demi-muids (600L barrels) where fermentation begins spontaneously. Historically, malolactic fermentation is not carried out on the wines of the current vintage (it can occur naturally in reserve wines) in order to preserve the freshness and character of the wines. The average aging period is four years "on lees" in the cellars and is much longer for vintage wines.
Terroir & Vineyard
The estate is located in Chamery, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. The vines are planted across four villages: Chamery, Écueil, Villedommange, and Montbré, all classified as Premier Cru. The three emblematic grape varieties of Champagne—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier—are equally represented in the vineyard. Spanning approximately ten hectares, the vineyard comprises around sixty parcels with an average vine age of 30 years. All the vines are grassed, and the soil is cultivated throughout the entire vineyard. Interventions are reasoned, each one is necessary. Measures to preserve biodiversity are also put in place: no herbicides, no insecticides and planting of hedges around the plots.
