History & Family

Born from the union of two winegrowers' children, Champagne Bertrand-Delespierre was founded in 1980 by Chantal Delespierre and Didier Bertrand. Today, two generations work side by side to cultivate nearly 10 hectares of family-owned vineyards, as two of their children, Clémence & Adrien, have joined the estate. As the sixth generation of winegrowers, they are determined to uphold the founding family values and continue to showcase the unique expression of these distinctive terroirs.

Philosophy

It all begins with careful vineyard work that respects the terroir. This is how the vines can produce expressive, high-quality grapes. The work continues in the cellar with meticulous winemaking, including pressing on a traditional Champagne press. Depending on their plot of origin, the juices are then transferred to vats or demi-muids (600-litre barrels), where fermentation begins spontaneously. Historically, malolactic fermentation is not carried out on the wines of the vintage, although it may occur naturally in the reserve wines, in order to preserve their freshness and character. The wines are aged for an average of four years on the lees ("sur lattes") in the cellars, and considerably longer for vintage wines.

Terroir & Vineyards

The estate is located in Chamery, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. The vineyards are spread across four villages: Chamery, Écueil, Villedommange and Montbré, all classified as Premier Cru. The three emblematic Champagne grape varieties — Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier — are planted in equal proportions across the vineyard.

Covering around ten hectares, the estate comprises some sixty individual plots, with an average vine age of 30 years. The entire vineyard is grass-covered, and soil cultivation is carried out throughout the estate. All interventions are carefully considered, with each one undertaken only when necessary. Measures to preserve biodiversity have also been implemented: no herbicides, no insecticides, and hedges planted around the plots.
