ALEXANDRE GRIMÉE • ARTISAN OF LIVING
The grandson of a winegrower, Alexandre Grimée was born in 1988 in the Vallée de la Marne in Champagne, a region deeply rooted in the history of Pinot Meunier, one of its emblematic grape varieties. In 2010, he settled in Azy-sur-Marne, in western Champagne, and established a small, one-hectare estate. His vineyards are located in Bonneil, a neighbouring village with which Azy-sur-Marne forms a natural south-facing amphitheatre. On these slopes of the Vallée de la Marne, Alexandre Grimée crafts grower Champagnes that above all seek to express their terroir, their vintage and the personality of the winegrower behind them. Working alone both in the vineyards and in the cellar, Alexandre Grimée follows an approach rooted in respect for nature, humility and a constant willingness to question and reassess his practices. In the vineyard, he tends his “garden” with care, favouring observation and adaptability over fixed recipes. In the cellar, he takes a discreet approach to guiding the grapes from harvest to finished bottle, intervening when necessary without seeking to impose a predetermined style on the wine. His philosophy is built around a simple belief: every year is different, and every vintage should be free to express its own personality. Alexandre Grimée therefore adapts his work to each vintage and to the wine it produces, seeking to preserve its character and identity as faithfully as possible. This approach naturally led the estate towards organic certification, obtained from the 2023 harvest onwards. Through his cuvées, Alexandre Grimée champions an artisanal vision of Champagne, where the winegrower’s work, the terroir of the Vallée de la Marne and the unique character of each vintage take centre stage.
